Flowers that propagate with bulbs are some of the most hardy and colorful
flowers you can plant. Some bulbs need to be planted in the fall, others can be
planted throughout the spring and even into the summer. Many 'tuberous' root
cuttings are called bulbs although their 'bulbs' don't look at all like what we
think of as a bulb. A flower bulb is just a specialized kind of seed that
contains the nutrients the young plant needs to get a good start. A tuber or
root cutting serves the same purpose. The flowers shown here are a mix of root
or tuber plantings, spring bulbs, roses and fruit trees. Some of our favorite
flowers are spring planted bulbs that go on through the season adding lively
brilliant color to our homes all through the spring and summer.
Brilliant Garden Color
Every Spring an Ocean of Blooms
The Planting Season For Many Bulbs is just getting started for most areas.
Spring Bulbs need to be planted early enough to start with the spring weather,
so if you wait too long you are better off to plant other flowers such as
annuals
for flowers this year. If it is still cold where you live, you still have time
to plant Spring bulbs and enjoy their colorful blooms this spring and summer.
The flowers shown here are now available for ordering,
bulbs will be delivered at the proper planting time for
your area if they are ordered in time for planting.
Many bulb and tuber flowers are America's favorite blooms and one of the first
signs of Spring. Where cold climates keep you indoors so long these brilliant
flowers peeping through snow remnants can make you feel the vibrancy of Spring
while the roses are still sleeping.
Some bulb flowers require a few months of 'cold sleep' to awaken fresh and
ready to burst through with color so they are not recommended for warmer
climates. Tulips need to be planted in the fall to start their life cycle
early next spring. If You want the first colors of Spring every year you'll
need to be sure the bulbs you choose to plant are strong and hearty to burst
through with their bright colors as early as possible.
Bulb and tuber flowers are fairly easy to grow when you start with healthy
roots full of their own vitality. The colors range from pale waxen whites,
pinks, yellows and blues to deep bright reds and shades that are nearly
black. There is a variety for everyone's tastes from the bold and amusing
reds and yellows of the tulips to the pale pinks and white of tree peonies.
With hundreds of varieties you are sure to find a favorite. These flowers
have all colors, streaks of bright colors, spotted flowers and solid colors,
stripes and flamelike variegated colors, the choices are without limit.
Some bulb flowers have just a fringe of contrasting color on the edges of
their petals. Bulb flowers have been bred for centuries and at one time
were used as currency they were so valuable. Today's favorite root planting
flowers are valued for their colors, and these varieties are valued for their
strength and vigor.
There are many places selling bulbs but not many that can honestly say that
each bulb has been inspected. These bulbs are strong and healthy and grow
beautifully when handled and planted according to the simple instructions.
If you are dreaming of surrounding your home with the first bright blooms
of Spring year after year you are at the right place to start.
