You can make your own dominoes from just about any kind of wood, but because domino players prefer each domino to have a uniform appearance and not stand out from the others with unique patterns or markings, it is best to use a solid hardwood without a distinctive pattern to the woodgrain. Rockler offers a dark walnut veneered to lighter wood to give you some remarkable dominoes without stray grain markings to give them away.

Everything You Need to Make Your Own Dominoes

Learn to make your own wooden dominoes from any species of wood! Makes an excellent gift that'll have people lining up at the table for some fun and games. Simply use the included bit and templates to drill the "spots" in your blank, then cut out your dominoes. The guide notches provide easy reference for cutting accuracy. Two templates makes one full set of double-six dominoes (28 tiles). Includes two drilling templates and a spring-loaded, hex-shank Domino Drill Bit. Finished tiles measure approximately 1" x 2". Templates measure 4-3/8" x 10".

I bought two of these GRR-Rippers, just so I could leave one of them configured for making racks. Not that it was such a chore to change the setup, but because I often needed more than planned for without any extra time in the schedule for things that could be done ahead. One of them was the Basic 100 Model and the other was a more advanced 200 Model - that's the one I kept ready for racks. Never a regret on these great tools.

The GRR-Ripper® Helps to Make Work Safer

Your Shop Safety is important, precision stock handling is important too. The GRR-Ripper is the simplest solution for guiding your work on a router or table saw without risking slippage of a featherboard, it gives you more complete control. Choose the Basic or Advanced Models and add accessories as you learn the versatility of this great tool. For about the price of an average saw blade, you could be working much safer than you are.

You may already have a picnic table in the yard or on your patio, but if it isn't a square table, it makes it pretty hard to get a game of dominoes going there. Everyone needs to reach the tiles and most picnic tables are made to seat people only on two sides. This one is different, and it is just the right size for dominoes anytime. You'll need a set of racks, and you can learn to make your own. For your game board, a 5/8" piece of birch or cedar plywood, cut to fit the table top and laminated with Formica® can get you going. You can cut cupholders in the corners, round the edges and customize your top to be unique.

Chess and Checkers are a few other games that are as popular in many places as dominoes are in others. I guess it depends on what games we grew up playing. Dominoes doesn't really need any equipment other than a set of dominoes. Chess and Checkers can't be played without the checkered gameboard. Rockler offers a set of plans to make a portable game set for checkers and chess, but it would be quite simple to adapt those plans to build yourself a portable dominoes board to keep in the car, to have at work, to take to parties or to give as a gift to a domino player you know.

We feel good recommending Rockler as your supplier because they supplied us for years with everything - except the wood - to build the best domino tables available. I ordered drill bits and screws, wood glue and finishes, sanding belts and sanders, quick change drill bits to countersink, flip and drill. I won't go into the whole list of tools and supplies I bought at Rockler, but I can say that they were the most dependable supplier I had and never had a problem if a return or adjustment came up.
